Question 3. In the Search box in the upper left of the screen type SFO. This will fly you to San Francisco International Airport. Hover your mouse over the red marker.
Question 4. What are the latitude and longitude values of SFO at this location in DMS (you can read them in the lower-left corner of the screen)? Make sure to write down the values to the nearest second.
Question 5. Use the measure path tool to measure the length of the main runway (the longer one). What is this distance in miles?
Google Earth allows you to type in latitude longitude values in decimal format or in degrees/minutes/seconds. Also, you can type N, S, E, and W for north, south, east, and west. Or you can use the convention of negative values for south of the equator or west of the prime meridian.
Question 6. Type 37.5, -122.5 into the Search box. What coastal feature (other than a beach) is this location near (you may have to zoom out a bit). Alternatively, what human-made feature lies just south of it? (2) Hint: Make sure that the Places layer is checked on the left-hand Layers menu. Hover your mouse over the small square symbol.
Question 7. Use the Path tool under the Tools>Ruler menu (or click on the icon along the top--it looks like a ruler) to measure the distance of the loop road around Pillar Point Air Force Station (You'll need to measure using multiple segments). Enter the distance in kilometers or miles to the nearest tenth (3).
Question 8. Type 31, 31 into the Search box. What kind of feature (place) does this take you to? What country? You'll have to zoom out and make sure the Borders and Labels layer is turned on. How many degrees of longitude is this location away from the location in question 15 (37.5 lat, -122.5 lon)? (2)
Question 9. Compare the ocean surface temperature off the west coast of the USA with the temperature off the east coast. Is one coast warmer than the other? Cite at least two specific examples on each coast. Compare locations at similar latitudes.
