You are assigned to complete a time study for a manufacturing process that you are not familiar with. Answer the following questions

a. Describe your approach and what steps would you take.

b. What are the keys to a valid time study that could then be used to develop a time standard? (Hint: this should not be the same as your answer in part a.)

c. After reviewing section 13.2 in the Groover (2007) textbook, describe the method that you would use to determine the number of cycles you would suggest to be observed. Describe any assumptions you are making about the process to determine the number of cycles.

d. What would you do differently to complete a time study for a business or service process that you are not familiar with, and why?

e. What is the difference between the direct time study procedure presented in section 13.1 of Groover’s (2007) textbook, and the process we used to perform a time study in class?
