Question: Case Synopsis In early 2011, Sarah Noble, a fourth-year science student at the University of Western Ontario, is reviewing the recommendations she is preparing for the manager of infection prevention and control at London Health Sciences Centre to improve hand-cleaning compliance of the hospital's health care and support staff. The Province of Ontario's Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care had implemented an initiative called "Just Clean Your Hands" to improve hand-cleaning rates that would directly affect the number of infections acquired by patients while in the hospital. Noble knew it would be difficult to implement a program to improve hand-hygiene compliance in such a large organization with so many diverse employee groups, and successful implementation would require acceptance and a permanent change in employees' culture and behavior..
