Problem

The nurses at Cooperville Health Care Center have been working short-staffed for more than 6 months. Nurses are becoming extremely tired and resentful of working so hard. Many are becoming fearful that client care is suffering and even may be compromised. The charge nurses have met with their nurse managers to discuss the problem and urge the hiring of more personnel. They also have urged that a pay adjustment be made because salaries have been frozen for 1 year and nurses are frustrated with working harder for what they feel is inequitable compensation. An announcement was made last week that the hospital was breaking ground on two new health care facilities that would cost $25 million. In addition, the hospital has hired two new administrators. The nurses are now upset and are beginning to investigate potential union activity.
