Note that the Athenians suggest that Sparta is not their "real" antagonist in the Peloponnesian war. They also say that losing their empire to Sparta is not as bad as subjects who would put them out of power.

What are the implications of what the Athenians say?

If Sparta is not their real enemy, even though Sparta is engaged in war with Athens, why are they not the real enemy? Who is it they consider to be their real enemy? Whoever they consider to be their real enemy why do they consider them to be the enemy? Part of your consideration ought to include just who the Athenians in the dialogue are. Are they a collective voice of all Athenian citizens or are they something other than that?
