Software Engineering Discusion
Part 1: The User Interface
What are the functions of a user interface? Do you think the user interface design is important?
Part 2: Respond to two peers
Peer 1 Megan
The user interface is the gateway for the user to access your application or to use your system. It is the primary interaction the user will have with your system and it can make it or break it. A well designed user interface is going to be consistent in color and font. It is going to be easy to use and intuitive for certain aspects. Ultimately you want to design a User interface that is going to be easy to use for the end user. Since a portion of the funds are going to be pushed towards the interface, the company contracting you is going to be expecting a return on investment. This can be from a more productive and efficient end user. If the User interface isn't easy for the user then the user isn't going to use it. The productivity remains the same and the company doesn't see a return.
Peer 2 Stephen
The user interface is, in my opinion, the most important aspect of the software or webpage to a client/user. The user interface is often the first look at what the user has at the organizations work. If the focus of the software is only behind the scenes, it is going the wrong way. Developers should have knowledge of how the user is going to want to use the software and what they feel like needs to be implemented on the user interface. User interfaces that are not properly implemented, clunky in design, or glitchy may turn users away from the business; not exactly a win for the business.
