Question 1: What are the functional characteristics required for something to be classified as alive? How do these functions facilitate meeting the survival needs of an organism?

Question 4: Compare and contrast the processes of transcription and translation in a eukaryote. Where do these processes take place? What organelles are involved? What templates are used for each process? What is the end product of each process?

Question 5: Doxorubicin and Vincristine are chemotherapeutic drugs. Doxorubicin (Adriamycin) binds to DNA and blocks mRNA synthesis, while vincristine damages the mitotic spindle. Using your understanding of cellular processes, explain how each of these drugs could be fatal to a cell.
