Case Study: Can anyone help me with my assignment? We need to answer some questions that are related to our textbook. The textbook we are reading is "Development Across the Life Span" by Robert S. Feldman, 10th edition. You can buy the etextbook on "Pearson.com" for 10.99 a month or from "afkebooks.com" PDF for 18.00. Even though the answers are in our textbook, we still need to write them in our own words, so I need some help. So much appreciated.
Questions:
- What are the four major principles governing growth? How can these explanations serve as a description as to why when we're infants we have such a disproportionally large head?
- what is synaptic pruning, when does it happen (in reference to this current chapter), and what purpose does it serve?
- What is REM sleep? Are infants capable of experiencing REM sleep? If so, what is the general pattern of how often they experience it as they age? What function does REM sleep serve for an infant?
- What is SIDS? Are some babies more susceptible to experiencing? If so, what populations? What has the general trend been over the years for the number of reports of SIDS?
- What are reflexes? What function do they serve? List and describe 4 reflexes described in the book that you were not aware infants can do. If you can't find 4, list ones that are interesting to you.
- what are gross motor skills? How are they different from fine motor skills? Are infants able to perform skills of either one?
When it comes to breast or bottle feeding an infant, what does the research have to say for both sides of the argument? Is there a consensus on which approach is better?
Would you consider infants to have bad eyesight? How long does it take us to develop things like binocular vision, depth perception? What evidence has been provided demonstrating that infants can experience depth perception?
Are infants capable of sound localization? Discriminating sounds? Able to show a preference for one sound over another?
Do infants carry any innate ability to show preferences of taste over others? For example, what happens when you switch scents on babies who are being breastfed compared to bottlefed? What does this tell us about bonding with mom? Do infants show the same preference towards the scent of dad?
what is the multimodal approach to perception? Based off of the information in the paragraph, do you think that infants experience different sensations separately, or integrated?
