A co-worker has two children and a husband. The husband has not been successful in keeping a job and does not treat his wife well, but he had come down with covid-19 which put him into hospital for 6 weeks. Recently he was tested negative of covid-19 and released to home-care, meaning the wife and two children need to care for him during recovery. His wife, your co-worker, is asking for a short work schedule of 3 days per week. The type of work she does, and is very good at, includes inside sales for a select group of clients. You and the company owner do not feel she can keep her list of clients satisfied on a short week schedule. Losing those clients would be a serious loss for the company.
