On Sesame Steet, behavior is genetically controlled. Individuals homozygous for the dominant allele 'Hobo' value their freedom and live in garbage cans. Thirty percent of them die of exposure. Individuals homozygous for the recessive alllele 'homebody' rarely leave the house. Fifty percent of them eventually succumb to diseases associated with sedentary lifestyle and cookie binges. Heterozygous individuals achieve a combinantion of comfort and fresh air that allows them to outlive everyone else.
