Solar Cell :
The average energy use per person in Ohio is 33.15 kilowatt-hours per day. Using the
incident light intensity values from TASK 2, determine how many square meters of active area would be required to provide enough energy to power a house which consumes 33.15 kilowatt-hours per day. Assume 6 hours of sunlight at the bright sky intensity (as determined in your lab) and 17% efficiency (todays most efficient solar cells).
2. Using your findings in this lab for solar cell efficiency findings and light intensity values the for cloudy sky conditions repeat the calculations in Question #1. Show your calculations! Comment on the plausibility of using solar cells to power an entire household under cloudy sky conditions.
3. Now that you have gained some familiarity with solar cells and their characteristics, what are your impressions about the efficiencies of these devices? What are some applications for solar cells that are currently being used? Why is this technology important?
4. Discuss how the angle of the incident light affected the solar cell? How could solar
cell designs and/or installations be designed to counter this affect?
5. What are the design implications for the location and positioning of solar cells? Explain
why the use of solar cells might be more appropriate in some regions of the country.
