Various pioneers in psychology like Sigmund Freud and Carl Rogers

introduced different types of defense mechanisms that we tend to utilize in times of coping with what we are experiencing, and these behaviors are evident in our day to day activities. These mechanisms are stimulated unconsciously by the challenges, conflicts or difficulties and it help us to adjust to what we perceived as harmful occurrences. However, the exploitation of these mechanisms can bring out unhealthy consequences depending on how and why we frequently use it.

In this time of our lives, all of us are suffering from different conditions brought by the global COVID-19 pandemic. All of us are experiencing difficulties in adjusting to what we consider "new normal". This month, we are celebrating/observing Mental Health Awareness, wherein events are being observed through social media postings to show support in raising awareness for all people especially for those who are living with mental health issues and to help reduce the stigma of these concerns.

As an individual we can become an advocate of mental health in our own little way. In relation to the defense mechanisms that you learned from the previous chapter, make an infographic poster that can provide information regarding the usage and effects of the defense mechanisms. Use the guide questions below on making your output:

• What are the defense mechanisms?
• How do these mechanisms help individuals adjust to their mental conflicts or concerns?
