Question - Knowing how to analyze a case will help you attack virtually any business problem. A case study helps you learn by immersing you in real-world business issues - and enhances your decision-making skills. A case presents facts about a particular organization, and you must focus on the most important facts and use the information to determine the best (of multiple alternatives) course(s) of action to deal with the problems you identify.

A case study analysis goes beyond summarizing a case. It should identify key issues and problems, and outline and assess alternative courses of action.

You may use your textbook and/or outside sources to develop your paper (use at least three sources). The paper should be between 4-6 pages long. The minimum length does not include the cover page and the reference page. Check for correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, mechanics, and usage. Citations should use APA style (see Unit 1 Reading, tab 2 for APA assistance).

In this case, you will have an opportunity to analyze the Microsoft® acquisition of Nokia®. The case introduces strategic decisions related to mergers.

In addition to the requirements for the analysis of a case study covered below, please specifically answer the following questions:

1. Speculate as to why Microsoft and Nokia initially decided to form a partnership rather than have Microsoft simply acquire Nokia.

2. How are the two businesses (hardware and software) the same and how are they different?

3. What are the critical assumptions that Microsoft is making in buying Nokia? Do you believe these assumptions are realistic? Explain your answer.
