*If choosing option 4, make sure to structure your essay in AABB or ABAB format as discussed in class.
Make sure to narrow down your topic appropriatelybased on the factors we discussed in class.
Audience: You are writing for a general (cross-disciplinary) academic audience, so your language and tone must be formal. Don't assume your audience is familiar with discipline-specific words.
Format and Organization:Your essay will be prepared both during class time and at home. The final draft of this essay will be typed and submitted electronically via Moodle (online). Your essay should be formatted according to MLA style guidelines (title, indented paragraphs, properly used quotation marks and in-text citations, works cited list, etc.). Your essay must include the following:
Introduction Paragraph
• a hook that catches the reader's interest and opens the discussion
• some background information or a bridge that leads the reader from the hook into the thesis statement
• a thesis statement at the end of the introduction paragraph that clearly identifies the main idea of your essay
Body Paragraphs
• a topic sentence that introduces the main point of the paragraph
• supporting details and explanation (including citations from other writers)
• a concluding sentence that closes your discussion
Conclusion Paragraph
• paraphrase your thesis and re-emphasize the key ideas you discussed in your body paragraphs
• end with a memorable statement about why your essay matters
