Assessment Task 2: Case Study & Presentation

This task will require access to and the use of:

  • Case study
  • Current industrial awards and agreements
  • Organizational policies and procedures
  • Relevant legislation and industry codes of practice.

Part A: Case Study

You have to read and understand the Case study and all documentation about Coffee Villa provided carefully. Consider yourself as being a new manager at the organisation and answer the following.

1. You need to identify information regarding the continuous improvement of the organisation.

2. Establish systems to ensure that the organisation's continuous improvement process are communicated to stakeholders and make sure that you adjust and communicate strategies to stakeholders according to organisational procedures.

3. Develop three strategies to ensure that team members are actively encouraged and supported to participate in decision making processes, assume responsibility and exercise initiative as appropriate.

4. Identify the areas for improvement, capture the ideas and incorporate them in the organisations knowledge management system.

5. All these measures should be documented in accordance with organisational expectations and communicated to relevant stakeholders.

6. What areas have you identified for further improvement and how can ensure that you consider them for future planning.

Part B: Presentation

Prepare a presentation in which you will be assuming your class mates would be your team members and your assessor will be your stakeholder. In the presentation you will be discussing about that how the change improvement processes meet sustainability requirements. Be prepared for oral discussions. (No more then 5-10 slides) and make sure you take an active role during the interaction with the colleague.

Assessment Task 3: Project & Role Play

Part A: Project

Consider yourself as an Operational Manager at your workplace. You are required to implement a continuous improvement programme aimed at the achievement of organisational goals. You should fulfil the following requirements:

1. Develop strategies to ensure that systems and processes are used to monitor operational progress and to identify ways in which planning and operations could be improved.

2. Facilitate effective contributions to and communications about continuous improvement processes and outcomes.

3. Address sustainability requirements that meet change and improvement process.

4. Incorporate mentoring, coaching and other support to enable people to participate effectively in continuous improvement processes and ensure that business activities are achieved through knowledge management systems.

5. Capture insights, experiences and ideas for improvements and incorporating them into the organisation's knowledge management systems and future planning.

6. Make sure that your team members are informed about the outcome of continuous improvement.

7. Make an employee performance review form to monitor the performance of employees in the organisation identifying the areas for improvement.

Part B: Role Play

Now considering yourself as an Operational Manager at your workplace, think of a major workplace change that you have had to make. Consider your responses as you worked through the change. There may have been various stages you worked through, such as the awareness of the need for the change, obtaining more information about the likely effects of the change, the effects on you personally of the change, and how management were likely to react to the change.
