Question 1. Is it necessary for a person/business to be guided by a code of ethical conduct? ? If so, what are the benefits for having a code of conduct?

(a) Explain the steps Coca Cola took to assure that its Code of Ethical Business Conduct was implemented.
(b) Provide one example of a conflict of interest, and what you would do to resolve the conflict, and why you would choose that course of action.

(d) If the goal of running a business is making as much profit as possible, and the goal of managing a government is assuring the safety of its people and securing for its people the resources with which to thrive, do ethics have any role in achieving these goals or is ethical conduct irrelevant? In other words, explain what is meant by the statement "the ends justify the means" by giving examples of actions taken by business and government that we discussed in class. Refer to the Lysine case, Toyota, and the Insider cases to support your answer.
Question 2. Define usury and explain the reason why laws were passed to prohibit it by some states? Does New York State have a law regarding usury?
If so what is it, and what is the penalty for violating the law.

Borrower, David, asks Lender, Scrooge, for a loan. Lender loans the money to Borrower and charges him 15% interest on the amount loaned to be paid each month. The principal amount of the loan is to be repaid in one year. In addition, the Borrower has to pay 2% of the loan for an origination fee to the lender who pays it to the Lenders provider of the loan.
