Case: A G3P2 is admitted to the labor unit. She is dilated 2 cm with membranes intact. Her birth plan indicates that she has requested an epidural block for pain management. Admission vital signs are:

Blood pressure 100/70
Pulse 90
Respirations 20
Temperature 98.2° F.

Question: The client tells the nurse, "I don't want any pain. I would like my epidural as soon as possible." What interventions need to be completed prior to epidural administration? After the epidural is placed, the client's blood pressure falls to 90/60 and the patient complains of dizziness. What are the appropriate nursing actions? What intrauterine resuscitation measures would help the fetus?
