Assignment:

In a normal pregnancy a progressive maternal plasma volume expansion (PVE) occurs, due to continual renal Na retention, which is important for optimal fetal development. However, this involves some major modifications in kidney function, because a normal, non-pregnant individual CANNOT undergo chronic PVE and renal Na retention. Furthermore, chronic PVE in non-pregnancy is associated with increases in blood pressure (BP) but in normal pregnancy, BP falls despite persistent PVE.

What are the actions of NO and atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) on renal Na excretion by the normal, non-pregnant individual?  Where is the major site of action of ANP and NO in the kidney tubule?  What is the 2ndmessenger system that mediates the renal tubular action of both NO and ANP?  How is this 2nd messenger normally degraded in the kidney tubules?

Please answer thoroughly. I will like and comment a correct and complete response.
