Problem: Cultural competence is defined as "a set of congruent behaviors, attitudes, and policies that come together in a system, agency, or among professionals and enable that system, agency, or those professionals to work effectively in cross-cultural situations" ( Cross et al, 1999) According to DHHS (2001) "organizational cultural competence is an integral component of systematic patient-centered care and has the potential to improve access to care, quality of care, and, ultimately, health outcomes" ( DHHS, 2001). Health care organization takes various masseurs to make sure that their organization is culturally competent. Organizations focus on improving different indicators of cultural competency such as particular observable or measurable characteristics of an organization that signify cultural competence" (Lewin, 2002). Building marinating cultural competency is not a one time thing but is a process. What are some ways to improve cultural competency within an organization?
