1. The Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act was enacted in July 2010 after the 2008 financial crisis, which brought the United States to the brink of a major recession. With a change in administration, Congress passed legislation in May 2018 weakening the protections under Dodd Frank with respect to "smaller banks." Provide some background of Dodd Frank and then discuss what Congress did recently in loosening some of the rules.
2. One of the features under Dodd Frank that remains in existence is the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). Describe this agency's creation, mission, and its unique role within the federal government. What have been some of the accomplishments and challenges of the CFPB in its short history so far? Do you think that this agency has been successful in its mission to protect consumers?
3. Consider the prospect for further changes to Dodd Frank and the future of the CFPB. What are some reasons given in favor of adopting changes and do you agree with them? Why or why not?
