Question: What are some of the types of bias, and how might bias distort data reporting? We see evidence of bias all the time, especially in commercials when we hear, "4 out 5 doctors recommend this product." In my opinion, this is biased. First, we have no way of proving this claim and also, they sampled just enough people to get their desired result. Under coverage is one form of survey bias, this happens when a good number of the population is grossly underrepresented. Under coverage is a problem when convenience samples are used.
A positive correlation was found between mean patient satisfaction rating and response rate in the actual patient satisfaction data. Simulation results suggest response bias could lead to overestimation of patient satisfaction overall, with this effect greatest for physicians with the lowest satisfaction scores.(Mazor, Clauser, Field, Yood, & Gurwitz, 2002)
Often bias can creep into your feedback and affect the quality of your research results without you even knowing it.(Jovancic, 2019)
