Nick and Alicia are a married couple. Both partners are working full-time from home while also having two young children attending school remotely from home. Nick often helps the kids get set up in the morning and then he has to work the rest of the day through the evening. Alicia gets up at 4:30 to make sure she can work for a couple hours before the kids wake and so that she can then help take the lead with dinner in the evenings while Nick works. They rarely have time to relax and enjoy each other company. As Alicia has become more anxious, she has started to try to talk to Nick about how the schedule isn't working.
This conversion topic makes Nick feel overwhelmed so he starts to shut down and try to avoid the conversation. This makes Alicia even more frustrated and want to find a resolution, intensifying her attempts to talk to him. Sometimes their conflicts escalates to Alicia saying statements like "you never want to talk about this" or "you don't care about me" until Nick walks turns away and leaves the room.
