How do we use spectacle to create our understanding of the "normal" versus the "abnormal"? Remember that things that humans label "abnormal" often make perfect sense to Nature. In nature they exist as perfectly viable creatures -- it's people who have a harder time letting them exist because of their difference. Normativity is following the rules of being "normal," but these are man made rules about what constitutes normalcy. It's all made up... but there are still consequences. What are the social benefits of fitting into the "normal" category? Whose social position is the default for defining what it means to be normal?
