After hearing about the 32-year-old nurse who has been complaining about sporadic episodes of discomfort, stiffness, and swelling in both hands and wrists for about a year, the patient explains that the episodes can linger for a few weeks before they pass. But more recently, she started to experience the same symptoms in her ankles and knees. Joint stiffness and pain make it difficult for her to carry out her job obligations and complete daily tasks. Usually, it takes several hours for the joint stiffness to become better. She also claims to have been feeling lousy and easily tired for the past three months, but she denies having a fever, chills, a skin rash, or losing weight.
