According to Novick et al "Collecting data is necessary for the assessment and monitoring of community health and for evaluating the effectiveness of preventive programs" (Novick, L. F., Morrow, C.B., & Mays, G. P., 2008). Among numerous public health datasets, Geographic Information systems (GIS) is an essential one for understanding and addressing public health issues. In your opinion, why is geographically based data valuable to public health? What are GIS applications for public health practitioners? Please provide specific examples to support your response.
