Assignment:
Practicum placement: Neuromuscular Clinic under the Health System which is 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
1. What are the funding sources for your agency's various programs? As a community, not-for-profit hospital, Navicent Health faces many challenges. Rapidly developing medical technology, reductions and changes in government funding for health services, and increasing amounts of indigent care add up to great expense, to name a few. The hospital receives less than 2% of its budget through tax dollars. In order for Navicent Health to remain a leader in the medical community, stay on the cutting edge, renovate and expand existing services, and provide care to all members of the community, continuing support from the community is needed. Funds received by Medcen Community Health Foundation Navicent Health are not used for the hospital's operating expenses but go toward capital projects, purchase of new equipment, medical research, and education.
2. What is the funding source for the program that houses your practicum change project? Myself and the rehabilitation hospital.
3. How long do you anticipate the program to maintain funding? The program has been in place since 2010. There is a huge demand for the neuromuscular clinic in middle Georgia, as it is the only one. The rehabilitation hospital will keep funding in place to continue the growth of the clinic.
4. What do you think will happen once the program funding ends? If the program funding was to end, the hospital would be doing a disservice to patients with neuromuscular diseases, specifically ALS. Patients would be unable to receive life altering treatment due to no other agency available.
