Question: Regarding performance appraisals (Chapter 21), what elements should be covered in the appraisal and state your reasoning. Do you feel that organizational goals and service to the organizational mission should be included in individual employees' appraisals? Should the employee's own goals be included? Should pay increases be tied to the appraisal? Why or why not?
Regarding goal setting, what approaches are the most effective, in your view, to ensure that the nurse manager and the employee are in agreement with what is expected?
Comment on how your approach would or would not be motivating to the employee, and how your approach would ensure that the goals of the unit and the organization are met.
At the conclusion of the discussion, come to consensus about what elements you would like to see on an effective performance appraisal and provide a rationale for your selections.
