The purpose of this assignment is to query a federal database to analyze utilization of the emergency department, and to identify trends and patterns.
This is a two-part assignment. Part I will utilize the HCUPS database.Part II will utilize the WISQARS database. You can answer all questions below and submit this document to the drop box.

Part I
Before starting Part I, watch "The HCUP Overview Course" video, located in the topic Resources for an overview of how to use HCUP database.
Follow the directions to analyze diagnoses data from the inpatient setting.
1. Go to HCUPnetin the topic Resources
2. Select thePriority Topics/Fast stats
3. Select the Emergency Department Setting tab.
Analyze the diagnosis of appendicitis.
• Select your State to analyze a diagnosis in the ED.
• Select Diagnoses-Clinical Classification Software Refined (CCSR), Principal/First-listed Diagnoses, Diagnoses: Appendicitis &Other Appendiceal Conditions.
• Select Type of ED Visit: Number of ED Visits.
• Leave the Start Year and End Year as displayed to see an aggregation of total numbers.
• Analyze the type of ED visits that were treat-and-released and required hospital admission.

Part 2: WISQARS
Analyze data from WISQARs to explore fatal injuries and identify trends.
Before starting Part II, watch the "WISQARS Data Visualization Training: Filter Data" video and the "WISQARS Data Visualizations Training: Export Data" videolocated in the topic Resources.

2. Filter Data to analyze injury type, intent of death, mechanism of death, select your state to evaluate.
