CASE STUDIES: HOFSTEDE AND TROMPENAARS
What might be the causes of misunderstanding/conflict in each of the following situations? Good argumentation is required as well as use of Hofstede's and Trompenaars's Cultural Dimensions.
CASE 1: Karen is from a large marketing company in Buenos Aires, Argentina and arrives to "do a "Presentation in New York, United States with a small soft drinks company. She has to make a number of decisions. Should she request to do the Presentation to the CEO himself, the whole board of Directors or the Marketing Team itself? Should she talk about the benefits the company would receive of the individuals? Should she stress the hardworking aspect of her company or the balance they have between work and pleasure?

CASE 2: Mikhail is from Moscow, Russia and has transferred to Stockholm, Sweden to begin managing a large team within IBM. Mikhail needs to learn how to minimize the cultural differences between how he expects his team to work now he is living and working in Sweden.
- What advice would you give to Mikhail about how to manage his team in terms of how to provide instructions, praise and reward his team, build good relationships and express his emotions as well as other issues in being a manager?
