Question: This assignment is intended to help you learn to do the following:
Reflect on your understanding of academic and professional writing.
Reflect on your development as a writer in terms of your strategies, habits, and processes.
Effective writers are characterized by their commitment to self-assessment and reflection. Like any practice, writing requires a commitment to be mindful of how one's skills are developing, what knowledge still needs to be gained, and what habits and practices need to fine-tuned or overhauled.
The organizers of the Franklin Innovation Seminar have asked you to prepare a short video or audio recording about your growth and development this semester. This video will be shared with new seminar attendees at the start of next semester. Your video or audio recording should be 3-5 minutes in length and should respond to at least one of the following questions:
How has your understanding of effective writing - both in terms of the written text itself and the processes and strategies writers adopt to produce written texts - changed over the course of the term?
When you look at your earlier work this semester, how does it compare to the later work you completed?
Be specific in your comparison. Discuss the major assignments that new students will take on in the course. Try to connect the dots between these assignments so that new students can imagine how they might develop as writers over the course of the term.
What advice do you have for new students? What will make them successful in the course? What could they learn from your experience?
How has the work you've done in this course paid off in other contexts? You may consider how your work in 205 has helped you in other courses, your workplace, or some other context.
