Question

What additional subjective data are you seeking? Hope W. presents to the clinic for a follow-up visit today and asks for assistance with quitting smoking. She is concerned about the health consequences if she continues to smoke. She reports to you that she has been trying to quit "cold turkey" without success. Hope first started smoking cigarettes when she was a senior in high school. At that time, she considered herself to be a "social smoker" - smoking one or two times per week, when out with friends. Since then, her smoking has increased in response to the stresses in her life, and she currently smokes about a pack per day. She worries that if she stops smoking, she might gain weight. As society has been moving toward becoming smoke-free, she has become self-conscious about her smoking habit and actively works to hide it from others. She says she is tired of hiding behind the restaurant to smoke throughout the day. She would like to discuss options for smoking cessation and put a plan in place.
