Scenario
You are the booking manager for Crown Auditorium. You are new to this position and are responsible for booking all events in the venue, in conjunction with the local arts council, community organizations, and regional promoters. The auditorium was built in 2012 and is considered by many in the community to be a pristine hall for the performing arts. It consists of a 2,800-seat multipurpose concert hall/theater.
Crown Auditorium serves the community as a place where touring Broadway shows, opera and ballet performances, and local arts organizations stage their performances. You have heard that the arts council has opposed several attempts by regional promoters to bring contemporary concerts to the venue. The board of directors consists of important political and business leaders within the community. In fact, the mayor's husband is the current chair of the board of directors, which oversees the operations of Crown Auditorium.
Your general manager has recently asked you to look into alternative programming in order to expand the variety of the auditorium's events and to generate more revenue. After researching possible events, you have discovered an electronic dance music (EDM) act named Kaleidoscope that is available to play a date at the auditorium. Kaleidoscope is known to work their audience into a frenzy and there have been documented incidents of drug arrests, underage drinking, and property damage at other venues. The event appeals to fans ages 16 to 22, most of whom have not previously attended an event at the Crown Auditorium.
As the booking manager, you have proposed that a Kaleidoscope concert should be scheduled at the auditorium. The general manager will present this idea to the board of directors. However, the GM is concerned that not all members of the board will support your recommendation, feeling that such an act is inappropriate and should not be scheduled in their pristine auditorium. In order to gain their approval, the GM has indicated to the venue's staff that the concert must be without any significant incidents or damage and must sell out!
