Final Project:
You will prepare a final project that presents your work to the class (we will arrange posting. We will walk through the details during the semester, and it will involve you finding a security event to explore.
The Event:
You may pick any event (security incident) that has occurred in the last two years that relates to information security and was written about in the news. It relates to security if it affected the confidentiality or integrity or availability of a system or information.
The Assignment:
Prepare a slide deck of no more than 10 slides that cover the following elements (cite sources at the bottom of each slide - URLs are fine):
A. Basic executive summary of the event: one paragraph on the first slide that briefly tells us what the event was and what the outcome was - this summarizes the entire event. The remaining slides will go into detail.
B. Setup - what organization, company or agency was affected by this. What system or type of data, and when did it occur.
C. What happened - here you go into more detail as available from the news accounts. Was this on purpose? Malicious? Accidental?
D. What area of security was affected - did this affect confidentiality, integrity or availability? Or a combination of some or all of them? Explain briefly.
E. What was the impact of the event? What or who was harmed and how much. Describe or show as best you can.
F. How and when was it discovered? And when did the public find out? If known, how long had it gone undiscovered?
G. What actions did the organization, company or agency take in reaction to the event? What did they do immediately and what did they promise to do long term if anything?
H. How was this able to occur? What did they do wrong that allowed this even to take place?
I. What is your opinion of the event and how the organization handled it?
