Question: The assignment is an individual case brief about the global strategic management of Eli Lilly in India and its joint venture strategy (attached). The assignment/case study brief must clearly identify all of the central/primary issues encountered by the management/decision-makers in the case study. It must present an in-depth analysis that includes the identification of precise/specific decision criteria and is supported by:
(i) reference to only relevant case facts that are clearly linked to the issues, analysis and/or recommendations; and,
(ii) an appendix with sourced figures, or tables. There must be well-connected and insightful conclusions based on this analysis; using the analysis and conclusions to develop multiple coherent, convincing, and concise recommendations.
Following the presentation of the in-depth analysis and detailed recommendations, an implementation plan must be provided which explains how the management/decision-maker in the case study should take action in order to implement the proposed recommendations. The case study brief must incorporate relevant readings, concepts, frameworks, or theories (see attached) where appropriate.
The case study brief must be cogently and carefully prepared, professionally written, and free of any grammatical and spelling errors. The length of the case study brief is 1500 words/6 pages (double spaced) max excluding title page, and any tables, figures, or exhibits. The case study brief should be structured as a list of answers to questions but rather as a business memo answering the questions below:
1. Did Eli Lilly pursue the right strategy to enter the Indian market?
2. Carefully consider the evolution of the joint venture. Evaluate the three successive international joint venture (IJV) leaders. Identify the unique challenges faced by each.
3. How would you assess the overall performance of the joint venture? What did the partners learn from the IJV?
4. What action would you recommend regarding the Ranbaxy partnership? What are the implications of your recommendation? How would you implement this?
