Assignment:
Read & Respond: What about Those Who Have Never Heard?
To begin, prepare for this week's journal by reading the following:
- Holsteen & Svigel, Exploring Christian Theology Volume 2, page 196
- Note: Some ebook copies of this text do not include the chart. If your copy does not have the chart, use this digital version instead.
- Wright, Salvation Belongs to Our God,
- McDermott & Netland, A Trinitarian Theology of Religions: An Evangelical Proposal Download A Trinitarian Theology of Religions: An Evangelical Proposal, pages 146-160
Respond to the following journal prompt:
The fate of those who have never had the opportunity to hear the gospel has been a hotly debated topic among evangelicals. Several different views have arisen through the years (see the chart on page 196 in Holsteen and Svigel, Exploring Christian Theology Volume 2, for the 4 major views summarized). In response to the reading, which view do you believe most closely aligns with the biblical evidence? Share your understanding of that view in meaningful paragraphs, including the key Scriptures that you believe support your view.
Take 1 of the other views and show how it is deficient, including explaining an alternate view for the Scripture passages that you found supporters of that view used to bolster their arguments.
Finally, explain why this question is important and how your view spurs you on to share the gospel with others.
The final journal will have at least 6-8 fully developed paragraphs.
As a reminder, these are not opinion papers. These are theological journals in which you are expected to interact with quality sources (texts provided) as well as additional research. See the rubric for additional details.
