Case Study: We can only imagine the future with an open mind. It is this open mind that Eric Ries describes in the video Lean Startup Meets Design Thinking (Google4Entrepreneurs, 2014). This is were innovation true takes hold along with imagination. By looking at a problem with an open mind, we are able to remove ourselves from the solution and start seeing the many possible ways of solving the problem. As a designer, we can have a tendency to only see our solution rather than vast possibilities. By listening to our end users, we can better understand their needs and desires. Creating the minimum viable product (MVP), we can gather the needed data and feedback to create the near perfect product. At the same time, we have to use the MVP to ensure that we don't miss the market curve jump. As Ron Cooks says, we have to move quickly.
For many beginning entrepreneurs, a design sprint may not be a viable option when creating our product. Though we have to be quick in researching, designing, and creating that MVP, it is our first product, and we must get it right. Based on the description of the design sprint, it seems to be a great way for an established company to get a new product to market. The one part that we can use as a new business is to build the MVP, get useable feedback, and iterate on the design. It is the iteration that will push our original idea to the next level.
