Listening is more than simply hearing, What roles do performances play in the everyday working contexts of nurses, especially as these relate to supervisors and those supervised? Could the interactions and conversations of nurses in their professional encounters be studied by anthropologists as performances? Why or why not? What about nurses' interactions with patients? What about nurses' interactions with other healthcare providers? What about gendered interactions in the nursing profession, could those be viewed as performances? Which is physiological. Listening is making sense of what you hear. It requires putting forth the effort to understand a message, whether in conversation, a speech, or a professor giving you information.

In Chapter 3, it lists four causes of poor listening. The text also shares ways to become a better listener. For this week's discussion, briefly describe a situation where you did not use good listening skills. Which one of the causes of poor listening relates to it? Then, share one or two of the techniques for better listening that would have made all the difference. Why?
