Question

The goal of financial management is to take actions which maximize the value of a company's stock. What about non-publicly traded companies (for example, small businesses, privately-held companies, family-owned businesses, non-profit organizations)? What actions maximize their value since there is either no stock or the stock is non-tradeable?
