Question: The concept of Southernization is rapidly becoming accepted as important in academics, and in teaching students in general. In some sense, it counteracts the long, long, long overemphasis on westernization (i.e HIST 105 European History, or HIST 105 Western Civ) that has been going on for such a long time. Beyond this, it DOES have a crucial concept to understand. So, why didn't you ever hear about it before and what about it do you think is important for students to learn?
