Two kilograms of water execute a Carnot power cycle inside a piston-cylinder device. During isothermal expansion, water is heated from an initial state where its pressure is 40 bar and the quality is 15% (state 1) until its state is saturated vapor (state 2). The saturated vapor then expands adiabatically to a pressure of 1.5 bar (state 3) while 491.5 kJ/kg of work output is produced. Water is then isothermally compressed at 1.5 bar to state 4 and then via adiabatic compression back to state 1.
