Watching a video called "The Bible's Buried Secrets."
-What is the impact of the claim that early Judaism (and therefore Christian and Islamic history) was polytheistic rather than monotheistic?
-What is the impact of having an edited Biblical text for cultures that draw influence from that text? For example, if there are two Genesis stories, how do we deal with that information? How do we deal with a text that was edited after the fact to tell the story of monotheism?
-The Abrahamic traditions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam) all have some understanding of a core set of texts that is, over time, interpreted by scholars, scribes, and religious figures. To what extent does this make the texts more "alive" at any given time?
-It could be argued that some religious texts like the Hebrew and Christian Bibles are actually more like libraries -- collections of works ranging from poetry to myth to primary document to secondary account to imaginative fiction -- and to read them only or especially as, say, a history textbook or a self-help guide is necessarily limited. To what extent do you agree or disagree? How do you back up your argument?
