After watching your selected film (see possible choices below), please watch this TED Talk from Keith Lowe, a British Historian, who argues that nearly every Allied countries obsession with WWII is perhaps not such a great thing and certainly does little to examine the realities of that era. He even alludes to how Americans have glamorized the war, particularly through Hollywood.
View ONE of the following films pertaining to World War Two (see the list below) and address the following:
1) What message pertaining to World War Two do you believe this film is trying to convey to audiences? What was your favorite scene(s) and why? Do you believe it was "historically accurate"? Why or why not?
2) Do you agree with historian Keith Lowe from the embedded TEDTalk that we commemorate World War Two not to actually memorialize the history of the conflict but rather reimagine/reinterpret this historical event to make us feel better about ourselves today? Why or why not? What evidence from the film you selected might support or challenge his arguments?
Please remember to provide specific details (scenes from the movie) to support your arguments.
