Question 1: Practice manually assessing heart rate in various positions and states of activity. Refer to the posted video for the manual pulse assessment protocol. Please answer the following questions in short answer form for each of the following positions:
Resting, Seated, Standing, During Exercise (after a 5-10 minute warm up, a brisk walk is fine), 1 minute into active recovery of your cooldown (walking slowly for 1 minute after exercise)
1. Describe body position. (lying down, seated, briskly walking, etc)
2. Describe protocol. (what steps did you take to assess your pulse?)
3. What was your heart rate? (report in bpm)
4. Was this HR higher or lower than the other positions?
5. Why was this HR higher/lower than the other positions?
Question 2: Complete a Health Risk Assessment on yourself, then complete the Rockport 1 mile Walk Test and calculate your estimated VO2Max. Please submit the following items to the dropbox:
1. PAR-Q (submit as a PDF- photo files will not be graded)
2. HSQ (submit as a PDF - photo file types will not be graded)
3. Risk Stratification (are they cleared for low or moderate intensity exercise ) and state whether physician clearance is needed to begin a vigorous intensity exercise program.
4. Rockport 1-mile walk time and heart rate upon completion
5. Estimated VO2Max and classification (excellent, good, average, poor)
