A certain nuclear power plant has a power output of approximately 450 million joules per second. a). How much energy does the plant produce in exactly 3 hours? Express your answer in scientific notation and to the appropriate number of significant figures. b). Express your answer from part (a) as a number that is not in scientific notation by converting it to a number between 1 and 10 with an SI prefix for the units. c). If engineers make adjustments to the plant that change the power output to 470 million joules per second, what would be the percentage change in energy output ? Ignore rounding rules for addition/subtraction and multiplication/division and just give your final answer to the nearest percent with no intermediate rounding. Was this a percentage increase or a percentage decrease?
Calculate d/dx cos(x) by using the chain rule and the trig identities and write tan(x); sec(x); csc(x); and cot(x) in terms of sin(x) and cos(x):
In the remaining exercises, it is assumed you will be using a spreadsheet. Do Exercise with n = 8.
Suppose you have 3 nickels, 2 dimes and 6 qtrs in your pocket. If you draw a coin ramdomly what is the probality that a. you will draw a dime ? b. you will draw a half dollar ? c. you will draw a qtr?
Determine whether the following arguments are best interpreted as being inductive or deductive.- When the Romans occupied England, coal was burned.
The rate of change of the frequency (f) of an electronic osillator with respect to the inductance (L) is df/dL = 80(4 + L)^-3/2, find (f) as a function of (L) if (f) = 80 Hz for L = 0H.
Do you think some students are better at formulas and others are better at understanding in why formulas work? What do you do to aid students who cant remember formulas?
Suppose you estimate the quotient 472 ÷ 58 using 500 ÷ 50 and using 420 ÷ 60. Which estimate should give a high estimate? Which estimate should give a low estimate? Explain the reasoning.
The manufacturer can produce the lamps at a cost of $4 per lamp. At what price should the manufacturer sell the lamps to generate the greatest possible profit?
What are complex numbers? What does imaginary parts of equal magnitude and opposite signs mean?
At a selling price of $ 65 , a lamp company breaks even on total sales of $ 4550 . If the company's overhead is $ 420 , find the marginal production cost per lamp and find the profit on sales of 154 lamps.
