Question: Was the worship space plain or heavily decorated? Were pictures, statues, or other artworks present? Were there many, or just one or two? What did they look like? What kind of seating was provided? Did the space seem tall, narrow, wide? Were some parts of the space marked off or separated? If so, how?
II. Before the service Did very many people arrive carly? If so, what did they do before the service began? Did anyone greet you? If so, what did they say? Were the officiants (clergy) visible before the service began? If so, what were they doing?
III. Officiants and congregation Was it easy to distinguish the officiants from other members of the congregation? If so, how? (clothing, where they stood/sat, etc.) How many officiants were there? Approximately how many people were in the congregation (estimate-less than 20, 20-50, 50-100, more than 100) How did the congregation participate in the service, if at all?
IV. Ritual and music What was the name of the service you attended? Describe the ritual used. Was it elaborate or simple? Confusing or easy-to-follow? Or was there no ritual at all? Was there a book or program to follow along with? Was the service in English or in another language? If in another language, was an English translation available? What objects were used in the ritual (e.g., incense, flowers, candles, food and drink, etc.) Was music a part of the service? Was it sung in English or in another language? What musical instruments (if any) were used? Who did the singing? The officiant(s), a choir, the congregation?
V. After the service Did most people stay until the end of the service, or did they come and go? Did people seem to be lingering after the service ended? If so, what were they doing? Did anyone greet you? If so, what did they say? Were there any events scheduled after the service (e,g. coffee or a meal)?
