For this discussion, select a game of chance, explain it briefly if it is likely to be unfamiliar to your classmates, then calculate probabilities of various outcomes like winning or losing in this game. For example, you might choose your state lottery, scratch card game, a card game like poker, or a dice game like Craps or Yahtzee, as your game of chance.
As illustration, read a lottery analysis in Powerball-Methodology.
Guided Response: Respond to at least two of your classmates who chooses a different game of chance than you by Day 7 at 11:59PM. Did your colleague provide enough explanation of the game to allow you to understand the analysis? Was the analysis provided by your classmate correct? If so, what optimal strategy for playing that particular game was described? If not, what suggestions would you make to your colleague to amend any issues?
Week 2 Graph Hint
Do you use you a MAC? The you might have two issues right off the top: Do you feel that you are not in any way knowledgeable in Excel (nor was this known to be a prerequisite for this class), and two, the drop box lectures are VERY helpful right up to the point of the creation of the graphs, histograms, etc. At that point the different make and version used in the lectures (PC, 2007) does not compute, literally. Additionally, the pop-up window to select data for your graphs and such is totally different for the Office for Mac product that you may have to use.
Did you figure it out already? When you go to series 2 and name the chart and go to that y value and delete it that equals (1) and put in the data it is looking for it won't let you enter it? Then put your data in the Y value and not in the data range. So the next race put the data in the y value and name it and hit add again and see what happens. Delete that equals and (1) first.
So in our assignment, the first one "American Indians" goes in the data range but then when you go to add series 2 do not put in data range put it in the y values and you can ignore the message. So you first put "am indian" in data range but when you add series 2 you put the data range information in the y value and hit add again.
**Also, if you get a result that your data is "suppressed", it means the occurance in your state is so small that they can't protect the confidentiality of the people. If you run into this, you can choose another state or change the number to 0 or another value in order to do the analysis.
