Assignment
Reflect on your thoughts and ideas after completing the weekly reading (Chapter 1 and Reading Notes Module 1) to deepen your understanding of the teaching of thinking, as it relates to the assigned readings. Complete a three-paragraph reflection with headings that includes:
1) Reflect - Report the facts of what you read, objectively. (Short, to the point, yet captures "essence" of the text, one paragraph
2) Connect - Analyze the reading. How does this experience relate to earlier ones? How does it connect to what I already know, believe or feel? Does it reinforce or expand my view? (your second paragraph)
3) Apply - Consider the future impact of the experience on you and the community. How can I use what I have learned from the reading in my current or future teaching? (your third paragraph)

How to Write a Reading Reflection
Your reading reflections are to be written in three paragraphs with the headings REFLECT, CONNECT, and APPLY. Remember to double-space your work and use APA guidelines to cite your quotes or references.
After reading the chapter and any other assigned readings each week, you are asked to Reflect on what you just read. Was it fascinating new information? Or was it a review of information you already had? Did it seem to "hit the nail on the head" about an area of teaching? What were your initial thoughts (reflections) about what you read? This is not a review or a summary of the readings. But, rather, your own feelings and thoughts after you read the chapter. This is your first paragraph.
Then, you are asked to Connect ~ were you able to make any connections with what you read. Did something the author mentioned remind you of a student you have this year, or maybe a student from a previous class? You may have a nephew, or a neighbor who you thought of, or a way of teaching that you have used before...or does it connect and relate to previous activities or readings in the course - tell us about any connections you were able to make in the second paragraph.
And, finally, in your third paragraph, you are asked how you plan to Apply your learning. What did you "take-away" from the reading(s)? You might be excited about what you read, and want to apply them when you're back in your classroom. Or, maybe it's something you can apply right now online or in a future classroom. You may even wonder if more teachers at your school could benefit from the readings, and think about telling your team what you discovered. Or, you may not be able to think of any use at the moment, but say, "I hope to have my own classroom in the next few years, and I will keep this to use then." Or, "I have a toddler at home; I'm going to try these activities with him!" By applying our learning, it seems to go deeper inside, then just reading about it, so we hope you'll enjoy this Apply section.
