How would you respond to this discussion post about marketing:
The four major functions in logistics include Warehousing, Inventory Management, Transportation and Logistics information management.
Warehousing is important to companies that build products all year round but might only sell them during the peak seasons or need a place to store product until shipping time. A Logistics manager would be the person in charge of picking a location and size of such a building.
Inventory Management is the decision of deciding how much inventory to carry. This is a very important task considering if you store to much you could run into high warehousing costs and too little you run the risk of running out of product. A Logistics manager would be in charge of this.
There are many different forms of transportation of your product. A company can use trucks, rail, pipelines, airplanes or even the internet. A Logistics manager would decide which is best.
Ill use Amazon as my example since I shop there quite often. A consumer decides what product they decided to purchase online and within a few days they ship from anyone of their thousands of warehouses located around the US via truck, plain or internet. Absolutely amazing what they can do.
