Vulnerable populations often experience multiple cumulative risks, and they are particularly sensitive to the effects of those risks. Risks come from poor or lacking policy, social hazards, environmental hazards, and biological or genetic makeup. Members of vulnerable populations often have multiple illnesses, with each affecting the other. Discuss the effects of social and economic factors on vulnerability. How can poverty (i.e., "being poor") and other social factors affect cumulative risk, susceptibility, resiliency, and vulnerability? How can nurses working in the community affect or alter vulnerability in their clients.
