1. Pharma has developed a new drug that is believed to cure a common fatal disease. In trials 75 percent of people with the disease were cured, while five percent of the subjects died from an allergic reaction to the drug. The new drug should be approved because it cures the disease.

2. The Nobel prize-winning biologist Herbert Ralls has stated based on his research that chlorinated hydrocarbons in our water supply constitute a major threat to the public health. Furthermore, no scientists disagree with him on this point and the majority in the field support Rawls' hypothesis. Accordingly, we conclude that the presence of these chemicals is indeed a threat.

3. In the 1960s a major reason put forth for continued United States involvement in the Vietnam war was known as the Domino theory. The supporters of this theory made the following statements: Each county that falls to communism leads to another country falling to communism. If south Vietnam becomes communist, then the rest of Southeast Asia will soon become communist. South Vietnam will fall to the communist North Vietnamese and the major powers The United States must continue to fight to keep South Vietnam a free democratic nation.
